Meetings

Meet-Up! Metropolis in Motion holds a monthly meet-up on the first Thursday night of the month somewhere in lower Manhattan. Join our announcement list or keep an eye on our home page for the date and location of our next meeting.

The monthly meet-up is a causal gathering that usually lasts about an hour, and we report back to everyone on news, committee activities, and brainstorm ideas for events and strategies. It's a great chance to meet fellow dance enthusiasts and find out more about how to get involved with Metropolis in Motion.

If you can't make meetings, you can still discuss the latest cabaret law news and help plan events on our Discussion List.

Ground Rules

In order to keep the meeting short and focused on business at hand, we have three simple ground rules to guide discussion at the meetings:

- Look forward. We're here to talk about how we're going to change the status quo, not reminisce about the old days. You can share stories about the way things used to be with others after the meeting.

- Seek first to understand. The cabaret laws are part of a complex system of laws regulating dance venues. Focus on facts about the laws and enforcement, and avoid making judgment on policies or related people and groups.

- Focus on dancing. There are many related issues, like freedom of expression, right to assembly, police tactics, liquor laws, noise control and others that come up in the course of conversation on the cabaret laws. For now, we're focused on learning more about the law, educating others, and growing our ranks of those who want to make more dance venues available in NYC.
